Vaporizers Beats Bongs

Cannabis Water Pipe (Bong) and  various Vaporizer testing.

n September of 2000 MAPS and CA-NORML wrapped up their  vaporizer study.on vaporizing marijuana. The analysis of the data and testing is now available on their website. Future academic research, testing highlites, data gathering and analysis still ongoing.

The study was a proof of principle exercise in data gathering. It was created to determine if vaporizing cannabis reduced the particles and carbon monoxide that are found in marijuana combustion. The research was done in a state-of-the-art laboratory, but it would like to remain anonymous.

MAPS/NORML Studies

The study’s research indicates that vaporization does minimize toxins that are found in marihuana smoke.

“…The vaporizer emited THC at a temperature of 200 C. (392 F.) while totally extracting three quanitified toxins – benzene, a famous carcinogen, plus toluene and naphthalene. Temperatures of near 200 C. have tested to show as the most efficient for vaporization of Cannabis.

The potency of the marijuana in this academic research was approx   10% – 12%. Large measureable amounts of THC (arpprox5%-6%) begin to be emitted at 180 C., with an increase to (7% or 8%) at 200 C.
Carbon monoxide and tars from smoke  were each qualitatively lessened by the use of a vaporizer…”
